Game Lab at Duke University

At the Utopian Studies Conference this past weekend, I met some very awesome scholars who are working with the Greater Than Games Lab at Duke University.  The Lab aims “to build a game platform that brings together virtual and real world components … to intervene constructively in real world problems.”  In other words, imagine using augmented reality games to foster activism and progressive politics.  Wow, now that’s gamification I can endorse!  I wonder how this work might intersect with the hundreds of occupations happening nation-wide.  Definitely looking forward to new developments from the Greater Than Games Lab.  Read more here:

Texas School Districts Shift to All-Digital Education Programs

More than a half-dozen school districts in Texas have approved an all-digital curricula for grades 5 through 12, which is delivered via the cloud and compatible with most devices, like tablets and PCs.

The new adoptees, which include districts in cities like Houston and Fort Worth, can begin using the educational programs, McGraw-Hill’s CINCH Science and CINCH Math, in the 2011-2012 school year.
